The Most Depressing Vocabulary Expansion Pack Around – But Not As Good as The Show

I read this following watching the Netflix show (which is brilliant, by the way, Patrick Warburton should narrate the audiobooks) and I found that the show was accurate enough that this was one of those rare occasions where the on-screen adaption could substitute entirely for reading the book. Whilst it is generally well written and I think great for younger readers to expand their vocabulary and improve spelling, etc. – the show offers a level of entertainment I think is a bit lost in the text.

I will say the way that the portrayal of the Baudelaire orphans as the only characters with an ounce of sense between them is very powerful and I imagine very alluring to young people who, let’s face it, generally think they know best and often feel victimised by the adult controlling their fate and offers a good comparison for you know, actual victimisation.

I’ll probably get around to the rest of the books eventually but I’ll probably get them for my baby brother when he’s older.
