At the Moment #4

I saw this post first over at Aurora @ Aurora Librialis‘s blog and thought it was such a cool, neat post idea that I asked Aurora if she would kindly let me steal pay homage to with my own post. At first, I thought would be a good fill-in for weeks I didn’t have anything to write for WWW Wednesday but I think I’d like to do it maybe fortnightly as a way to bring focus to other interests of mine. Let me know what you think!

So, I’m aware I haven’t posted one of these in a good long while but have a couple of very good reasons, a few okay reasons and a tonne of barely-there reasons for why that is. Added together they make the overarching reason of ‘busy’.

I’m posting this in place of my Top Ten Tuesday post this week, the prompt for which is ‘Bookstores/Libraries I’ve Always Wanted to Visit’. Whilst this is an awesome prompt, I’m not feeling overwhelmingly inspired for it and even if I was I don’t think I can name enough specific places. I do have a list of local (to me), amazing bookstores in the works but it’s not really the same list. If you are wanting some of my Top Ten Tuesday goodness, head on over to my last post for that, but if you are a teensy bit curious about what has me so busy, do proceed.

I’m Reading …

A Few Too Many Books To Be Honest … Here Are A Few

I have far too many books on my Goodreads ‘Currently Reading’ Shelf at the moment, something I’m just going to have to go fix soon. The main books I am flitting between are Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa & The Life and Times of a Very British Man by Kamal Ahmed. Shadow of the Fox is a fantastic Japanese mythology inspired fantasy novel I am just loving so far. The Life and Times of a Very British man is a memoir described as a ‘coming-of-age story about growing up in 1970s Britain on the boundaries of race’ and though I have only recently started I am already very interested in Ahmed’s new (to me) perspective of growing up in England.

I’m Watching …

Are You the One? The Great British Bake Off (2018)

So both of these are somewhat guilty pleasure shows of mine.

As a rule, I don’t enjoy reality TV, especially that which airs on MTV – it’s just my cup of tea but – I do have a soft spot for Are You The One? I started watching this show when it first aired and the concept is simple – if your perfect match was right in front of you, would you know it? 10 girls and 10 guys (all bad at dating and relationships) are put in a house and told in that house is their perfect match (found through intense compatibility tests, psyche evals, statistics, all that science stuff), all they have to do is figure out who it is in 10 weeks and if they do they win $1,000,000. The catch being, if even one person gets it wrong at the end of that time, they all win nothing. Begin the drama. This show isn’t unlike Love Island (except it started first) and though I wouldn’t touch the latter with someone else’s barge pole, I really enjoy this one.

I have been a loyal viewer of The Great Brtish Bake Off for years now and have been enjoying this second year in the programme’s new home, Channel 4. Previously hosted on BBC1 I was dubious about the financially motivated change of home but have since fallen in love with Noel & Sandi’s skits and sketches. Even if Paul Hollywood has depreciated the value of his handshake tantamount to that of 1 yen in this season alone.

I’m Listening to …

Rent (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Rent (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

I’ve never seen Rent, on stage or on screen but I may need to after stumbling on a few of the songs in my Spotify recommendations and seeing this pretty fantastic cast alone!

I’m Working On …

My Degree!

I have wanted to go to university for such a long time, it’s hard to believe that time is finally here. I’m doing my degree alongside my full-time job as an Apprentice so it’s pretty full on and that’s a lot of the reason you may not hear from me so much for a while. I’m determined to keep this blog going but I’m having to seriously work on my priorities …

I’m Going to …

Study … Because, At No Fault of My Own, I Started A Week Late – Bye!

  1. I like this! It reminds me of a tag I started on my own blog called Tea Tuesday(which I abandoned cuz I didn’t feel like it generated much interest) but this one’s better 😜 ‘Rent’ looks fun and I’ve heard of Kagawa’s book. Gooood luck on your studies & job!

  2. Oh man, I love the OBC soundtrack for RENT! I was lucky enough to see the touring cast in I think 1998 or 1999 and it was incredible. The movie is actually a decent adaptation and has almost the entire original cast in it (but it cut out my fave song wah). Highly recommend!
