Books I Did Not Finish – Top Ten Tuesday #14

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl at the start of this year. This week’s prompt I had to adapt to Books I Decided to DNF Too Quickly because I don’t really regret any of my DNFs (and I barely have ten).

Teo, S - Ponti10. Ponti by Sharlene Teo

This is the most recent DNF … but I hope to return to it. I just can’t get into it … the points of view don’t really interest me (through no fault of their own) and I just can’t enjoy reading about terminal illness.

200px-The_Fault_in_Our_Stars9. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

I made the mistake of watching the film first so I knew what was coming and realised at chapter 7 we were getting to close to the place I didn’t want to go. And again, with the terminal illness – is it just me?

Carlin, L - The Wicked Cometh8. The Wicked Cometh by Laura Carlin

I couldn’t get into this one either, it wasn’t bad or anything just … not fast moving enough for me.

See my review here.

Ahern, C - Where Rainbows End7. Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern

I wanted to read this book in preparation for its on-screen adaption, Love, Rosie, but it very quickly became apparent it was the kind of love story I don’t like that is unrequited over 50 years and full of pointless other characters that get in the way causing aimless longing all over the place.

David, P - Artful6. Artful by Peter David

This seemed like a fun graphic novel to pick up, based around the Artful Dodger and Oliver Twist’s London but then vampires made an appearance and I took that as my cue to jump off.

Ahern, C - Thanks For The Memories5. Thanks for the Memories by Cecelia Ahern

A similar occurrence, I don’t think me and Ms. Ahern are meant to be together. I got to a point but then magical memory implants just got a bit too unbelievable and I had to put it down.

the kill order by james dashner4. The Kill Order by James Dashner

I pretty much didn’t enjoy anything about this book, it was incredibly boring and annoying and didn’t make sense, and unfortunately, it put me off reading the rest of the series.

See my review here.

Lyon, R. K - The Sherlock Effect3. The Sherlock Effect by Raymond Kay Lyon

really didn’t like the main character in this and found the mysteries really predictable. It was a shame really since I was hoping to like it but hey ho.

See my review here.

Steinbeck, J - The Grapes of Wrath2. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

John Steinbeck and I don’t really get on, first with Of Mice and Men and now this one. His books, being set in the depression, are understandably depressing and I don’t enjoy them.

download (1)1. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

UGH. Fanny Price. UGH. I mean, I love the other Austen novels I’ve read but I just can’t even with her. I really can’t ever see myself picking this up again.

So that’s it, I’m trying to keep this level of DNFs to a minimum since I don’t like to give up on a book.

Have you managed to finish any of these? Do you think I should give them another chance? Drop the links to your Top Ten Tuesdays in the comments!

Until next time!
